About Us
The Wisconsin Wheelchair Sports Association (WWSA) has recognized a need in our community as well as the surrounding area to provide a Community Sports Facility for physically disabled people on a day-to-day basis. This facility, known as "WheelPlay Sports and Recreation Center", will provide a place for the disabled population to gain the benefits offered by recreational activities (sports) and social interaction. The WWSA hopes to develop a safe, convenient, and rewarding place for disabled and able-bodied people to come together and enjoy wheelchair sports. The WWSA feels that the benefits to the community, as a whole, as well as community involvement through volunteer opportunities will benefit Milwaukee and the entire Southeastern Wisconsin region.
Clinical studies also show that sports and recreation programs can help youth and adults establish lifelong, healthy, physical activity patterns. Regular physical and social activity can ward off life-threatening diseases, reduce feelings of depression and anxiety, help control weight and obesity, and build and maintain healthy bones, muscles, and joints, according to the President's Council on Physical Fitness.
The disabled population in the Milwaukee Metropolitan area must have the opportunity for success in education and sports regardless of age, race, gender, family composition, income or community. The Wheelplay Sports and Recreation Center will be created to provide the wheelchair sports and social programs necessary for the Southeastern Wisconsin disabled population to have equal opportunity for a healthy and rewarding life.
We hope you can help us make this happen.
Thank You,
Allen Neu
